The FYI Scholarship Fund, now in its 15th year, is in commemoration of Jamal Hemmings and Amon Beckles, Toronto youth who were lost to gun violence in November 2005. Jamal and Amon were participants in FYI’s daily programs and will be remembered for their positive, vibrant personalities and dance skills. The FYI Scholarship Program supports our community’s youth towards a brighter future through funding support for various forms of education including college, university, training, trades, and certificate programs.

FYI Youth at the Scholarship Award Ceremony
Your donation can have a huge impact on a youth's ability to pursue a post-secondary education! Here is what past winners have had to say about how receiving the FYI Scholarship is important to help youth who are seeking a post-secondary education:
“Being a recipient of the FYI scholarship has been extremely helpful in my 1st year at Ryerson. It has allowed me to focus more on my academics and less on work, which gives me more time for studying and course review. I know if I had not received the scholarship, the stresses of work and school life would have taken a toll not only my academics, but my mental health as well. ” - Stephen, 2019 FYI Scholarship Recipient

“I can now say thank you FYI for giving me a scholarship that not only motivated me more to attend school but also gave me the opportunity to do it. This scholarship helped me and my family overcome my financial needs as I was able to cover my personal expenses while attending school. I can also say that it gave me the opportunity to focus more on my studies as I did not have to worry about how I was going to get the money to travel to and from school. I encourage people to help FYI achieve their scholarship goals for the upcoming year because the impact a scholarship can make in someone’s life is unbelievable. I am always thankful and as a York South-Weston resident and as an immigrant, I can proudly say that thanks to FYI I am now part of those who could attend post-secondary.”
- Daniel, 2019 FYI Scholarship Recipient
“FYI’s scholarship is a great way to support students and help them get a post-secondary education. Thanks to the scholarship, I have been able to focus less on working and more on studying as I was able to use the scholarship money to help pay for books and transportation. The scholarship is a great way to remove barriers and make the path to graduation a smoother journey for those who may need the extra help!”
- Princess, 2019 FYI Scholarship Recipient
