Overview: The mentor serves as a caring adult in the youths’ life and is available to listen, validate, and coach their mentee about navigating life and negotiating relationships as a young adult. Mentor Duties/Responsibilities: 1. Work alongside mentee weekly with additional ad hoc communication via telephone, email and social media as needed 2. Co-develop mentorship plan with mentee which includes goals, actions activities can include exploring opportunities for learning, meeting educational or employment goals, defining needed resources etc. 3. To be a caring adult to mentee through coaching them appropriately to manage relationships and navigating life as a young adult 4. Encourage and support youth to set and meet educational, employment, and community engagement goals 5. Facilitate and provide feedback to mentees during each session 6. Engage, encourage and conduct goal setting with mentee to successfully complete mentorship plan 7. Complete program surveys, evaluations, and other relevant administrative tasks 8. Work collaboratively, and in consultation with the Youth Mentorship Program Coordinator to best inform ongoing engagement with the mentee 9. Participate in relevant professional development opportunities Mentor Requirements/Qualification 1. Be over the age of 18 2. Vulnerable Police Reference Check Clearance (VSS) 3. Enjoy interacting, engaging, and encouraging youth 4. Good Listening skills 5. Commitment to the role (minimum 6-12 months, estimated 3 hours weekly) 6. Volunteers ensure the health, safety and well-being of all children, youth and vulnerable people in
YMCA programs. Volunteers commit to the professional responsibility of maintaining knowledge of

Teen Night is an open access teen only program for youth 13-18 from around the community and within our membership. The key themes of the night are youth engagement, leadership and health.
Activities may include: recreational, arts/culture, social, discussions of interest including summer jobs, global involvement, asset development, family challenges, body image, environment, etc.

Major Duties
 Be positive, helpful and welcoming at all times.
 Build relationships with youth and introduce them to other youth, staff and volunteers.
 Deliver YMCA service responsibly, honestly, respectfully and with care.
 Take responsibility to ensure that work area is clean at all times.
 Take action to ensure youth are safe when participating at the YMCA.
 Share the YMCA charitable mission.

Qualifications
 Minimum age 13.
 Volunteers age 16 and above will need to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening from their local police service before their first day of volunteering and every three years on the anniversary of their first day of volunteering.
 Previous experience working with youth an asset.
Time Commitment
 Teen Nights operate either every Fridays or Saturdays for approximately three hours. Minimum shifts vary at each YMCA Health and Fitness Centre.

Young Somali Growers is an urban agriculture program developed by Somali Immigrant Aid Organization (SIAO). Vision Young Somali Growers aims to promote and advocate for food accessibility and insecurity for Somali youth in Weston Mount Dennis. Mission Young Somali Growers exists to empower Somali youth and develop leadership roles in urban agriculture.

We intend to advance food accessibility and increase awareness of food insecurity for the Somali youth in Weston Mount Dennis.

Responsibilities & Duties

1. Develop creative activities for at-risk youth (ages 15-19)
2. Facilitate youth voice to empower them to take action
3. Ability to engage youth boys who may have no interest in participating in any activities
4. Facilitate and mediate youth conversation circle
5. Record student opinions and interaction
6. Record student attendance and absence
7. Be on-site for programming activities
8. Coordinate with urban agriculture youth coordinator in preparing field trips and activities
